Hi I’m Yankee Bloch, founder Meshuga 4 Sushi [Meshuga means “Crazy” in Yiddish] and I absolutely go “crazy” for fishing and catching “Yellowfin Tuna” on the coast of Mexico, I do so every few months.
From a young age I instilled in my sons a passion for fishing and it was on a faithful day back in the summer of 2002 that the idea of Meshuga 4 Sushi was conceived. In November of that year, being an avid fisherman I was in La Paz Mexico fishing at the height of the Yellow Fin Tuna season. My sons and I encountered a large school of enormous yellowfin tuna, that day we each caught several 120 pounds + Yellow Fin Tuna’s.
Once back at the shore the captain started to fillet the tuna, I took a piece of this stunning toro[belly] grade maguro [“maguro” means tuna in Japanese] and dipped it in the salty ocean water, took a bite of the tastiest freshest yellowfin I ever had, my sons & I have never forgotten that day.
After this first bite I felt all that was missing was some wasabi:) The rest is history, Meshuga 4 Sushi opened its doors in 2011 and fresh sushi is the centerpiece of my daily mission.
